"The
dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes
and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp
stick called "truth"." Dan Rather
I have been offered a job as a kindergarten teacher in the spring of 2013. I will be the kindergarten interim for the remainder of the year.
I have been consistently trying to find items for my classroom and how I should incorporate literacy centers, imagination centers and overall just trying to make my classroom and a place where the children want to come and learn everyday!
I couldn't be anymore happier than I am right now. It has been a long 18 months and it seems things in life are finally going the way they are suppose to. I am extremely happy about my future 16 little turkeys I will have in January.

And I'm In the Program
"You've got what it takes, but it will take everything you've got." - Unknown
Today was an exciting day for me. I had an interview at the local community college here in town, where I was interviewing for a spot in the alternative teaching certification program. Needless to say I got the spot and I'm now headed down the teaching route.
The more and more I think about how I got to this very exact spot in my life, I wonder why I took a huge detour and went down the very long route through the woods and back to where I am now. Whatever the reason may be, I'm here and that is all that matters.
I'm excited to start classes on January 17th, my pedagogy class will have about 20 or so students & my EC-6th Generalist class will consist of only me! :) the best part about that is, the teacher is currently a teacher herself in a school district, I'm hoping she will let me come to her classroom during the day so that I can learn by watching her as well as a few Saturdays here and there!!
Just to explain how excited I am, I went to Dollar General and spent around $15 getting school supplies for my 2 classes. I was terribly sad in August when I graduated and knew I wouldn't be buying new school supplies since this year was technically my first year not in school. Well that changed when life changed and had to make a decision about career choices. So I headed down that school supply aisle that makes me light up, even when I don't need supplies, I'll still head down that aisle and make up any excuse I possibly think of up to justify why I needed that item! :)

Going Down a Different Path
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin
I'm headed down a new path. A path that I should have went down 2 1/2 years ago. For as long as I can remember I've always wanted to be a teacher, it's in my blood, I have 3 aunts in the education field, one of which has already retired; also my cousin is a math teacher and 2 other cousins who have their teaching certifications as well.
Looking back on the teachers that were picked for me to have each year, I can honestly say I was put in "the best" teacher rooms. From all the things that I've learned and can remember through the years I was always called the "teacher pet" but really it wasn't that it was just I was in training for my future, my future as a teacher.
I've been using www.pinterest.com to get ideas for projects, organization of the classroom and misc. things for friends of mine that are teachers. I can say people have invented some neat stuff to help them stay organized or just stay on top of things in their classroom. Which has shown me that I'm just getting ideas for my own classroom.
As I start down this new path, I want to remember my teachers that I had in the past and remember all the things that I learned from them. I want to be the best teacher I can be to my future students and hope that one day they remember the things that I did for their learning and just to be the best teacher I can be.
As I start down this path of becoming a certified teacher, it scares me a little. I know I can do this, but I will have 20 to 25 students in my class that I'm responsible for their learning. As one of my teacher friends told me, I have more experience in the classroom than she did going in her first year. I worked for an elementary school for three years; substituting, office aide and misc things that helped me learn the ins and outs of a school.
Join me and my journey to becoming a teacher and the journey of actually being a teacher.
